As Believers, we're often quick to declare, “My heart is with the Lord.” It’s the expected answer, the right thing to say. But where does our heart truly lie? Jesus challenges us to examine not just our words but the true focus of our lives, revealing that the end result of how we live showcases where our heart genuinely is.
In our pursuit of success, we often chase the things this world offers—wealth, recognition, possessions—believing that these achievements define us. We measure our worth by promotions, the size of our homes, the luxury of our cars. But Jesus calls us to shift our focus away from these fleeting treasures and towards the Kingdom of Heaven.
Jesus said, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:19-21).
We work tirelessly for gold, money, and success, often to the point of exhaustion. But did you know that in heaven, the streets are paved with gold? What we value so highly here on earth is nothing more than pavement in the Kingdom of Heaven. It’s a stark reminder that the treasures we chase on earth hold no real value in the eyes of God.
In heaven, gold is as common as concrete. The very thing we strive for here is used to line the streets there. This tells us that what we treasure on earth should not take precedence over our relationship with God.
We often measure our giving by what we expect to receive in return. But in the Kingdom of Heaven, the currency is generosity. God’s economy doesn’t operate on a quid-pro-quo basis; it operates on the principle of giving without expecting anything in return.
Jesus said, “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” (Luke 6:38). But this isn’t about giving to get something back—it’s about understanding that true wealth is found in our relationship with God, not in our earthly possessions.
The Bible tells us that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). Our focus should not be on accumulating wealth or success, but on living a life that reflects the values of the Kingdom of Heaven.
We must constantly check where our treasure is because that is where our heart will be also. If our hearts are set on earthly possessions, we may miss out on the true riches of the Kingdom of Heaven.
Today, I challenge you to evaluate where your heart truly lies. Are you more concerned with earthly success than with your relationship with Christ? If so, it’s time to realign your focus. Let go of the things of this world and turn your eyes towards the Kingdom of Heaven.
If you find yourself chasing after the things of this world, remember that in the end, these treasures will pass away. But the treasure stored up in heaven will last for eternity.
Prayer: Lord, help us to shift our focus from the fleeting treasures of this world to the eternal riches found in Your Kingdom. May our hearts be truly aligned with You, and may we live our lives in a way that reflects the values of Heaven. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
